A plainly unarmed small woman posed an imminent threat of death or serious bodily while surrounded by lots of cops? No, we have seen no evidence that Ashli Babbitt did anything that justified Officer Byrd’s shooting.

Deadly force is justified only when someone is threatened with deadly force. Essentially, deadly force is only justified as defense of self or some other person.

Justification requires the presence of all five of the essential elements of self defense. Those are Innocence, Proportionality, Avoidance, Imminence, and Reasonableness. We have not been shown any evidence that even one of the essential elements of self defense were present in this matter. ALL are necessary. If just one is missing deadly force is not justifiied.

In this case the Capitol Police did not even attempt to show that all the essential elements were present to justify the shooting of Ashli Babbitt. This was not self defense. It was murder.
